The Douglas House, designed by Richard Meier and completed between 1971 and 1973 in Harbor Springs, Michigan, is an outstanding example of modernist architecture. Perched on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, the house is notable for its stark white façade, geometric forms, and dramatic use of vertical space. Meier's design integrates the building with its natural setting, featuring large glass windows that offer stunning views and flood the interior with natural light. The use of white as a dominant color both inside and outside the house creates a sense of purity and simplicity, characteristic of Meier's architectural style. The Douglas House's innovative design, emphasizing the interplay of light, space, and form, has cemented its status as a significant work in the evolution of contemporary architecture.
